Do I need an account to split a bill?
No. Scan a receipt or start a bill and you get a guest session automatically — no signup. Guest bills live on that device only, so create an account if you want to keep them or reach them from another device.
Do the people I'm splitting with need an account?
No. Share the bill link and they can join, see items, and claim what's theirs without signing up — on every tier.
What's free vs. paid?
Free: 1 active bill at a time, up to 5 bills every 30 days, up to 5 people per bill, and 5 receipt scans a week. Group (€4.99/month): up to 10 active bills, 50 bills every 30 days, up to 20 people per bill, and 50 scans a week. Everyone on every tier can claim their own items independently.
Does Bill Splitter move money or connect to my bank?
No. It only calculates who owes what — it never touches your bank account, card, or anyone's payment details. Settling up still happens however you'd normally pay someone back.
What happens to my receipt photo?
It's uploaded securely, sent to an OCR provider to read the items and totals, and stored only for as long as the bill exists. See the Privacy Policy for exactly who processes it.
Why can't I delete a bill, only archive it?
Archiving keeps your scan history intact instead of letting it disappear — deleting bills outright would let someone dodge the weekly scan limit by deleting and rescanning. Archived bills don't count toward your active-bill limit.
How accurate is the receipt scan?
Good for typical printed receipts, including itemized tax/service/tip lines, but not perfect. Every extracted item, price, and total is editable after the scan — always worth a quick check before sharing.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes, from the billing portal (Account → Manage billing). Canceling stops future charges; your bills are not deleted, but new ones fall back to free-tier limits.
What currencies are supported?
Bills display in EUR. The scanner reads whatever currency and tax format is printed on the receipt (GST, VAT, HST, etc.) and keeps tax lines separate from items rather than lumping them together.
Is my data used to train AI models?
No. Receipt images are sent to our OCR provider only to extract items and totals for your bill, not for model training.
